A recent study of exhibition loans at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, proposes that crates could be standardized to be more materially efficient and reusable, and that versatile crates could be created to serve additionally as display cases for the artwork they carry. Other studies encourage transport agents to regularly check and improve fuel efficiency. Institutions could also prioritize working together to coordinate or consolidate shipments of objects and share couriers, as already occasionally happens, while continuing to assure the safety of works of art.
